COLONEL KARL J. EDELMANN

Colonel Karl Edelmann is commander, 452nd Medical Group, March Air Reserve Base, Calif. He is responsible for handling all medical requirements for the wing as well as the tenant units and the readiness of three medical squadrons. 

He entered the Air Force Reserve through direct commission in June 2001 as a traditional reservist and Officer in Charge of Physical Examinations at the 927th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich. The colonel planned and implemented the transfer of the medical unit from Selfridge ANGB to MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., providing complete medical support to the wing within four months of the unit's move due to Base Realignment and Closure. Assigned to the 63rd Air Refueling Squadron, MacDill AFB, Fla., as Squadron Medical Element Medical Officer, in 2008, he deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In 2010, he was assigned to the 459th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, Joint Base Andrews, Md. as Chief of Aerospace Medicine and became commander of the squadron in October 2011.  As a civilian, he is a Board Certified Family Physician and Geriatrician in private practice since 1989, teaches strategy for the University of Maryland University College, and has served as President of the Southern Shores Field Service Council, Boy Scouts of America.
