The 452nd Air Mobility Wing's Rising Six hosted two 5K Fun Color Runs, at the old track, Aug. 9th and 23rd. More than 100 service members, dependents and civilians ran and walked the course during both UTAs.

The Rising Six came up with the idea because members of the group had run in off-base color runs and there hadn't been one held on base before, said Tech. Sgt. Kyle Platt, 452nd Civil Engineer Squadron and wing Rising Six president. The group wanted to do something to celebrate summer, boost morale and encourage exercise and health, he said.

The council spent three months planning and coordinating the event. About 20 volunteers helped the day of the run and they brought friends and children to join the festivities and help man the color stations found throughout the course. The first ten to cross the finish line during each race received medals.

"This event was a lot of fun! Kids and families enjoyed it and it was great to see everyone laughing and enjoying themselves," said Senior Airman Paige McCann, 452nd Communications Squadron and Rising Six secretary.

During the wing commander's call, Aug. 24, Senior Airman Nicholas Meyer, 452nd Maintenance Squadron and wing Rising Six vice president, thanked the volunteers, participants, supporters and Command Chief Master Sgt. Timothy White for supporting the Rising Six and the color runs.

"The run turned out great and we had plenty support from Command Chief White, first sergeants, and the Chief's Group," McCann said. "We had volunteers from different squadrons and even some Marines came to help set up."

Civilians also showed their support to the Rising Six by participating in the runs. Marissa Murguia, 452nd Force Support Squadron, walked the 5K with co-workers from the March Air Reserve Base lodging office. "I had never been to a color run before and was very excited. It was so fun and a great experience," she said.

The Rising Six is a wing organization comprised of Airmen in the ranks of E1 through E6. Their goals are to serve the base and local communities in the form of volunteerism and raising awareness for various projects and events to people on and off base. Any Airman within those ranks is an automatic member of the Rising Six and is encouraged to attend meetings and get involved.

"If you're looking for an opportunity to do something, if you feel like there's something missing, come out and join us," Platt said.

The Rising Six is already working on its next event, the Commander's Cup Games, to be held on the combined Unit Training Assembly, Saturday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m.
