Not new to March Air Reserve Base, the Air Force Key Spouse program is designed to provide personal/family resiliency and enhance the Air Force community as part of the military life cycle, but the methods of the program’s communication here were minimal at best. That’s when retired Senior Master Sgt. Dawn Perez stepped in and established a private Team March Key Spouse Facebook page to reach more of the program’s demographics.

“We need our families to know that they are supported. We are dealing with unprecedented and often uncertain times. Our families have questions. The Key Spouse Program gives them a venue to get answers, be kept informed, and feel supported by their Air Force family,” Perez said. “Once life returns to normal, this group/program will only enhance Team March. Spouses will feel more connected which can only have a positive impact.“

The challenge to reach all of Team March spouses and families is a big one; especially considering March is a Reserve base with most of its members only reporting once a month. This is where social media helps.

“On our first day that we rolled out we gained 50 members, but March has more than 6,000 personnel. We’re not reaching everybody and we want them to know we’re here so please spread the word,” Perez said. “We don’t want anyone to feel alone in all of this or that they can’t find the answers. Collectively we can tackle this, (because) we’re in this together.”

The new page, launched March 17, 2020, is for all Team March members, spouses and family members. You are encouraged to share the page and help spread the word that it is available to all of Team March, active, Reserve, Guard, sister services, civilian employees and contractors.

“We want everyone to feel supported. We’re joining forces with the Guard and Reserve Airman and Family Readiness Centers, have a member with USO affiliation, as well as others who have connections to various support agencies and organizations,” Perez said. “Additionally, members bring their own military life experiences and lessons learned which provides valuable insight.”

Working together, the Key Spouse page members will have the resources to provide support and foster personal and family resiliency, communicate information, and enhance Team March by establishing a sense of community.
