What will your new year be like?
MARCH AIR RESERVE BASE, CALIF. --
If 2010 was the "year of transitions," 2011 is being called the "year of procrastination!" Really? Who gets to decide what we call it? I would like it to have a more positive twist, like the "year of expansion" or the "year of hope" or the "year of "get r done!"
I would like to suggest that we mix it up this year instead of making and breaking those new year's resolutions, AGAIN (now be real - have you kept your resolutions for the first week of January?). If you've already broken one of those resolutions then welcome to procrastination corner - you tell yourself that you'll exercise tomorrow, or you'll finish that "honey-do" list next weekend right after your UTA, or you'll take your kids to the beach, or you'll _________ (you fill in the blank).
Let's change the radio dial from "music to procrastinate by" to "music of promises kept, projects finished, PME completed, F2F passed, OPRs and EPRs done early." Why? If you "get r done" then you'll have less time to stress and worry about everything on your "to do" list, and more time to share with those you love and more time to plan and prepare for your year.
I think that 2011 will be a great year - stretching before you is the New Year. It consists of 365 days, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes, 31,536,000 seconds. This year you'll take approximately 8,000,000 breaths and you'll blink over 11.5 million times. You'll spend over 100 days sleeping - assuming you sleep 7 hours per night.
So what about the rest of your year - how will you spend it?
You can't change the breaths and the blinks, but you can make some decisions over what you can control. On December 31, 2011, when you reflect back on the year, will you smile or frown? If you decide to order your life around God and around those whom you love, chances are you'll be smiling as you reflect back on the year. Why? Because you'll have spent time with your family and with God, building a stronger foundation personally, emotionally, spiritually.
So, don't procrastinate - get started today. Take time out to pray. Go to church. Make time to share a meal with your family. Make time to send that card you've been meaning to mail or make that long overdue phone call. Whatever it is, you decide, a little bit of time each day invested in the things that really matter will pay dividends at the end of your new year. So, change that dial from procrastination to the greatest year you've ever had! Happy New Year!
