MARCH AIR RESERVE BASE, Calif. -- During National Fire Prevention Week each year, we at the March Air Reserve Base Fire Department take the opportunity to remind Team March members about the importance of practicing fire safety in their home and work environments. Although we will be highlighting fire safety next week, this is something that should be on-going every minute of every day. You must maintain a constant vigil to keep yourself and your loved ones safe from a very horrendous fate.

Keep your smoke detectors clean and serviceable at all times! If yours is more than 10 years old, it is time to replace it.

Make sure your fire extinguishers are maintained, as well. You should take every dry chemical fire extinguisher in your home, office, automobile and garage and turn it upside down and shake it vigorously at least twice each year to make sure that the dry chemical inside the extinguisher remains loose and doesn't get packed from sitting in the same position all the time. This will ensure that the extinguisher will operate correctly when you need it.

Stay safe, and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact your fire department professionals here at the station. Remember, being fire safe is everyone's job!
