Burns culminates 24 years of dedicated service to the U.S. Navy Reserve. His leadership resulted in the command earning consecutive Retention Excellence Awards in 2010 and 2011, as well as the command’s selection as Navy Region Southwest Reserve Component Command’s “Medium Navy Operational Support Center of the Year” for 2010. Prior to his arrival, Cottrell served as the deputy executive assistant to the Chief of Navy Reserve. During his career, Cottrell was also assigned to the Littoral Combat Ship Squadron Mine Countermeasure Mission Package Detachment Two and Afloat Training Group Pacific.
