The D-Day Doll, a C-53D Skytrooper from the Commemorative Air Force Inland Empire Wing, sits on the tarmac at March Field August 18, 2017, with her crew assembled in front. Beside her is a KC-135 Stratotanker from the 434th Air Refueling Wing, Grissom ARB, Ind., with current members of the 434th Maintenance Squadron in front.

The D-Day Doll was flown by members of the 434th Troop Carrier Squadron during WWII, thus is part of the 434 ARW's lineage. "Doll" flew three missions on June 6, 1944 from RAF Aldermaston in England into Normandy dropping paratroopers and towing gliders. She is currently planning to participate in the 75th anniversary commemoration of D-Day in June of 2019.
