The 1930’s marked the golden age of March Field. Hollywood celebrities, famous aviators, and military legends visited, trained at, and commanded the base during the decade. Perhaps the most prominent of these individuals was Gen. Henry H. “Hap” Arnold. Arnold held the rank of major when he took command of March Field and the 1st Bombardment Wing in November of 1931. He would leave in January of 1936 as the first general officer to command the installation. These photos highlight many of the events and accomplishments experienced and executed by personnel from the 1st Bombardment Wing and March Field, all under the command of one of the Air Force’s most famous leaders, Gen. Hap Arnold.
