March Field Museum unveiled the 'Legacy of Freedom Ceiling' exhibit last month. The exhibit, which is in the entryway of the museum, features a collection of dog tags hanging from the ceiling.

The dog tags are there to honor military members, from all branches of service, past and present, said Ami Sansweet, events manager at the museum.

Patricia Korzec, the museum's executive director, saw a similar display at the National Vietnam Veteran's Art Museum in Chicago and thought it would be a good idea to replicate it for the March Field Museum, said Sansweet.

Currently, there are only 132 dog tags hanging in the display, but the museum hopes to eventually have the entire entryway overflowing with dog tags.

"We want to have as many dog tags as possible, so when you enter the museum, the wind will rush through and cause a chime effect," said Korzec.

The museum is accepting dog tag donations from all war eras. Also, dog tags can be purchased and engraved at the museum.

To donate or purchase dog tags, visit the March Field Air Museum, located at 22550 Van Buren in Riverside or mail them to P.O. Box 6463, March ARB, CA 92518.
