'March Idol'

MARCH AIR RESERVE BASE, CALIF. --  The 2nd Annual March ARB Talent Show, dubbed "March Idol," is set to kick off Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Cultural Resources Center. Coordinator Staff Sgt. Renita Turner, 752 MDS, said it promises to be an exciting show. 

"The purpose of the show is to boost morale on base among the troops," said Staff Sgt. Turner. "After everyone and their families enjoy a day of food and fun at the picnic (Military Appreciation), they can come right over to the Cultural Center for more fun at March Idol." 

Staff Sgt. Turner modeled the competition after the wildly popular TV show, "American Idol," created by no-nonsense Idol judge, Simon Cowell. 

For the second year, March Idol will be hosted by Cedric Perry, 452 AMW/SEG. The show's three judges have also returned: Chief Master Sgt. Agustin Huerta, 452 AMW/CCC; Master Sgt. Medhat Dawood, 452 MSS/DPMSA; and Senior Master Sgt. Ionne Barnes-Joshua, 452 AMXS/CCF. 

Just like the TV version, the Idol audience will vote for their favorite performers at the end of the show. 

"We pass ballots to the audience at the end of the show," said Staff Sgt. Turner. "The audience picks their favorite performers, we count them up, and the top three votes win. So contestants should make sure they bring plenty of family and friends to support them." 

Prizes will go to the 1st- 2nd- and 3rd-place winners.
