Leadership Conference hard-hitting, says Chief Published Sept. 16, 2008 By Will Alexander 452 AMW Public Affairs MARCH AIR RESERVE BASE, CALIF. -- March ARB's 3rd Annual Leadership Conference will take place on Sunday of the September drill at the Education and Training Center. The purpose of the conference is to provide Airmen with learning opportunities designed to enhance their quality of life and their careers, according to Chief Master Sgt. Agustin Huerta, 452 AMW/CCC. "Two subjects come to mind," he said. "The (Military) One Source and the Airmen and Family Support Services classes - those are aimed at the families, if they care to attend. The classes talk about how you can get financial counseling or marital counseling or deployment counseling." Chief Master Sgt. Huerta also talked about the "Pre-deployment" class. "It's all about how we can help you with information and best practices for preparing for deployment," he said. "What to do; who to talk with; what to prepare for. What does a power of attorney look like? What is a will all about? How does that help me? Is it an exercise just to keep the first sergeant off my back or is it really going to help me and my family in the event I leave?" This year's conference schedule is a lot leaner than over previous years. That's because organizers responded to feedback from past attendees who told them that the schedule was unnecessarily time-consuming on an already busy weekend. "Bottom line is there was too much stuff that wasn't really geared towards 'How do I enhance my quality of life?' And, 'How do I get ahead in this Air Force?'" said Chief Master Sgt. Huerta. "Some folks spread themselves too thin. "This year's leadership conference is hard-hitting and very comprehensive," he said. "We tried to keep all the information highly relevant - no side shows. It's one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. That way, if the people want to stick around and talk with the instructors a little, they can." The following is this year's conference schedule: "Pre-Deployment" Collin Younger, (USAF retired) 9 - 10 a.m. 1 - 2 p.m. "How To Get Promoted Fast, Quick and in a Hurry" Senior Master Sgt. Julie Simmons 9 - 10 a.m. 1 - 2 p.m. "The Retirement System/Tricare For Life" Quendolyn Price 9 - 10 a.m. 1 - 2 p.m. "Financial Planning" Dwight Miller 9 - 10 a.m. 1 - 2 p.m. "Fit To Fight" Capt. Marco Sandoval 9 - 10 a.m. 1 - 2 p.m. "Family Support" Kathryn Johnson Rodiquez 9 - 10 a.m. 1 - 2 p.m.
