With coordination from the 452nd Aerial Port Support Flight, on May 22 the Antonov An-124 Ruslan, NATO reporting name Condor, uploads Joint Explosives Ordnance Disposal Rapid Response Vehicles (JERRVs) from Force Protection, Inc. here on the March flight line. The Cougar is a 12 ton mine protected armored patrol vehicle that has been used extensively to counter the Improvised Explosives Device (IED) threat in Iraq. Since the vehicle was first deployed in 2003, not a single Soldier or Marine has been killed while patrolling in a Cougar, despite more than 1,000 IED attacks on the vehicles. The 12-person APSF team is currently tasked to support the deployments and redeployments of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom for all branches of services and agencies based in the Southern California region.
