Birds of a different feather

The Great Blue Heron stabs its prey with a sword-like beak in an attempt to immobilize it before eating it at March Air Reserve Base, Calif. This protected species of migratory bird is spotted in various locations on base throughout the day and does its best to help control the rodent population here. (U.S. Air Force photo by Linda Welz)
