Jennifer Cacioppo (left), a mammal handler from Science Application International Corporation and Jennifer Meegan, a veterinarian from the National Marine Mammal Foundation pet a bottlenose dolphin from Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, Calif., March 26, onboard a March Field C-17. Unlike human divers, dolphins are capable of making repeated deep dives without experiencing “the bends,” or decompression sickness. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Megan Crusher)
