Staff Sgt. Aja Smith, 50th Aerial Port Squadron, holds a luminary bag she decorated in memory of her grandfather, a chief master sergeant who retired after a 30-year career in the Army Air Corps and Air Force. Sergeant Smith said her grandfather was a World War II, Korea and Vietnam veteran. He was first diagnosed with cancer in the early 1980s and battled it until he passed away in 2007.
