On Saturday, friends, family and military members gathered in the base chapel to say farewell to Russell Desvignes, former Tuskegee Airman and recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal. Mr. Desvignes earned his wings as a bomber pilot on November 17, 1944, in the then-segregated Army Air Corps. He served honorably until 1946. Mr. Desvignes passed away on October 4, at the age of 87.
