MARINES BASED AT MARCH FOR ‘TRUE’

Lance Cpl. Jose R. Hurtado, an administrative clerk with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Pendleton, conducts a radio check as part of the “Camp Cardiac” camp guard force based at March Air Reserve Base. He is part of a detachment of Marines and Sailors who are conducting Training in an Urban Environment (TRUE) Sept. 8 - 19 in the March ARB, Riverside, Los Angeles and Big Bear areas. The purpose of the exercise is to train and evaluate the combat readiness of the 13th MEU before it deploys. The MEU trains in unfamiilar locations to better prepare Marines and Sailors for deployment. TRUE consists of three situational training exercises that involve the MEU’s command and support staff, Marine Special Operations Company operators, and aviation assets to execute reconnaissance and surveillance followed by direct action.
