AFSO21: MAKING THE DEPLOYMENT PROCESS MORE LEAN

Maj. Eddy Palacios (right) and members of the 452nd Air Mobility Wing AFSO21 team brief Col. Jeffrey Barnson, Vice Wing Commander, March Air Reserve Base, July 25, on the current state of deployment processing times for a single member at March ARB. The team wants to cut the time it takes for a member to deploy to four hours, according to its facilitator Lt. Col. Scipiaruth Kendall (left, standing). “There’s a lot of waiting for service,” she aid. “We’re talking about a traditional reservist taking time away from his job, being away from his or her family, and they have to out-process from the base, and it takes a long time. We want to cut out the non-value added time.” The team will brief Brig. Gen. James Melin at its Rapid Improvement Event in mid-October. (U.S. Air Force photo by Daniel Pilkington) What is AFSO21?: It stands for Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century and aims to build a culture of continuous process improvement to enhance combat effectiveness in the the Air Force.
