Air Force Junior ROTC land navigation
Technical Sgt. Raul Quintero, an aircrew flight equipment craftsman with the 452nd Operational Support Squadron, demonstrates how to use a compass to locate a specific point in the hilly terrain of Sycamore Park in Riverside during an Air Force Junior ROTC land navigation lesson in land navigation. The 11 students in Sergeant Quintero’s group are in Air Force Junior ROTC at Moreno Valley High School and the class is comprised of sophomores, juniors and seniors. The students did so well, that they were tasked with mapping and finding additional locations. Sergeant Quintero is an avid volunteer in the local community who has worked with Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and given presentations at local schools and to veterans organizations. Dignified transfer
Team March members flooded Graeber Street to await the passing of the remains of Army Staff Sgt. Michael David P. Cardenaz of Corona, Calif., who was killed by a rocket propelled grenade while serving in Afghanistan. Sergeant Cardenaz’s family was on base to meet the plane carrying his remains. As the hearse passed, service members saluted and civilians placed their hands over their hearts. The Fire Department turned on their fire engines’ emergency lights. The family members in the long procession cried as they observed the support of the members of Team March paying respect to a Soldier they had likely never known. (U.S. Air Force photo by Megan Just)
