Lt. Col. Keith Guillotte (from left) pilot, Staff Sgt. Winston Demmin, crew chief, and Master Sgt. Sebastian Faison, loadmaster, all from the 729th Airlift Squadron, get into character as they have a seat on a period motorcycle. This was day one of their trip to Normandy, France this past June to support the flyovers of the Picauville American Memorial and the Normandy-American Cemetery. The crew said they were overwhelmed by the amazing number of French citizens who dressed like American Soldiers from the D-Day period. The March Air Reserve Base Fire Department joined over 100 firefighters to assist at a fire at a plastic recycling business in Riverside June 26. A major highway and railroad were shut down for over four hours. Also assisting Riverside City Fire were departments from Riverside County/CAL Fire, Colton, Rialto and San Bernardino County. A KC-135 Stratotanker from the 336th Air Refueling Squadron refuels a C-17 over the Black Sea in August. The C-17 was carrying President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan aboard. March Air Reserve Base Airmen were deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. The 336th, along with troops from the 452nd Air Mobility Wing including the 452nd Maintenance Group, went to Turkey as an air refueling aviation package. IN RETROSPECT 2007: A collective look at Team March's missions over the year
With coordination from the 452nd Aerial Port Support Flight, on May 22 the Antonov An-124 Ruslan, NATO reporting name Condor, uploads Joint Explosives Ordnance Disposal Rapid Response Vehicles (JERRVs) from Force Protection, Inc. here on the March flight line. The Cougar is a 12 ton mine protected armored patrol vehicle that has been used extensively to counter the Improvised Explosives Device (IED) threat in Iraq. Since the vehicle was first deployed in 2003, not a single Soldier or Marine has been killed while patrolling in a Cougar, despite more than 1,000 IED attacks on the vehicles. The 12-person APSF team is currently tasked to support the deployments and redeployments of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom for all branches of services and agencies based in the Southern California region. Staff Sgt. Winston Demmin, 729th Airlift Squadron Crew Chief, befriends the son of Dennis Dennebouy, president of the Picauville Historical Society, Picauville, France, in June during a mission there. On the day of the crew’s departure, nearly the entire town came to the airport to see them off.
