March ARB pauses to remember 9/11

Countdown to the annual picnic
(Right to left) Staff Sgt. Stanley St. John, Elaine Plein and Staff Sgt. Becky Dutcher unfurl a brand new Military Appreciation Picnic banner. They zip-tied the sign to the fence in a prominent location on the main gate roundabout. The sign promotes the 37th Annual Military Appreciation Picnic that will be held at LeMay park on Saturday. The picnic starts is open to all branches of the military and their immediate families. There is no cost to attend. There will be free food and drinks, live bands, children’s activities and a commander’s dunk tank. The Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce, the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce and The Silver Eagle Club are co-hosting the picnic. Western Recruiting Squadron Cycling Team
Cyclists from the Western Recruiting Squadron pose for a group portrait next to one of the C-17s at March ARB. The group rides together recreationally about twice a month, as well as participating in cycling events such as the Tour de Cure. ‘New’ Optical Center enters fifth month at March ARB
Walter Parmley, the general manager of the Optical Center, demonstrates the flexibility in a T-Flex brand frame made of memory metal. The frames are designed for men who are hard on their glasses. The most popular young men’s frames at the Optical Center are retro black plastic frames, while the best sellers for the older men are the wire ‘navigator’ style. The trendiest frames for young women are rectangular black plastic frames and for older women, oversized, circular frames continue to be popular. March firefighters battle massive Station Fire
strike team 6051A deploys: The firehouse on March ARB received a request for assistance Saturday, August 29, to help with the U.S. Forest Service’s massive ‘Station Fire’ blaze north of Los Angeles. The call activated strike team 6051A, a team of local fire engines: one from Indio, one from Murrieta, two from Riverside, and March ARB’s Engine 10. The four firefighters from March deployed to an area of the fire just north of Glendale with the mission of structural protection. The firefighters will remain on the fire until dismissed by commanders on the scene. The strike team is part of a mutual aid agreement between area cities, counties, and CalFire where they may call one another when they need help. Noncommissioned officer leadership course graduation
Twenty-two students recently graduated from the two-week Noncommissioned Officer Leadership Development Course (NCOLDC) at the March ARB Cultural Center.
