A Fireside Chat with Pearl Harbor Survivors
Frank Verano, a retired Navy chief radioman from Sun City, Calif., and John Ballard, a retired Navy chief pharmaceuticalmate from Hemet, Calif., both Pearl Harbor survivors, spoke to a crowd of about 30 people Dec. 6 at March Field Air Museum. The men spoke of their experiences on Dec. 7, 1941, when Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese Navy which caused the U.S. to become militarily involved in World War II. Experiences from their time in the Navy were also recalled by the retired sailors whom, on occasion, answered questions posed by the crowd. The crowd described the dialogue as being “powerful” and “educational.” (Photo courtesy of March Field Air Museum)
